What is Linkey?

Linkey is what is known as browser advertising scamware. This type of scam installs itself into Chrome, Firefox and Internet Explorer and displays unwanted advertisements in the web page the user is visiting. These ads would not normally appear on the web site but this scam extension will add them by either adding new ads for banners or coupons, or removing the web site's real ads and adding its own. Linkey is a highly dangerous scam not only because it delivers ads to the browsers but also track and reports on the user's behavior while using the browser. Such behavior that is tracked and shared by Linkey includes the domains visited, URLs visited, advertisements displayed and tracked. Most specifically this scamware will monitor eCommerce shopping sites and tries to determine what you buy online in order to share this data with other advertisers or marketing firms so that it can inject other somewhat related coupon offers.
