What is Advanced System Optimizer?

Advanced System Optimizer is a registry cleaner program that many consider being a scam. It makes claims to clean your computer and fix errors when in fact these claims cannot be proven. Advanced System Optimizer is a registry cleaner and Windows system optimizer designed to speed up a computer. However, after the program scans the computer, often without prompting, and "finds" dozens of things wrong, it will demand extensive payment to "fix" those apparent problems. In fact, on a completely clean computer we ran Advanced System Optimizer and it found a dozen to hundreds of critical issues. Many anti-virus and anti-malware products also detect this as a PUP, or a potentially unwanted program.
Stop Advanced System Optimizer Scamware
The scam works by the user unintentionally installing Advanced System Optimizer on their computer, usually through a bundled installation or download managers. Once it is installed, it will quickly start running in the foreground and perform a scan of the user's computer. Upon completion, the scan will report hundreds of known errors and problems that should be fixed immediately in order to prevent the computer from crashing or running slow. These problem it detects ranging from registry errors such as "corrupt" registry entries to temp files. However, even though most of these errors are compeletly benight to the performance or stability of the computer, Advanced System Optimizer reports them as critical. The user is then tricked into pressing the "Fix" button to correct any of these problems. Advanced System Optimizer then redirects the user to a web page where they must buy the software in order to make any fixes. In some versions the software will "repair" a few issues but will require payment to fix all issues.

More importantly we feel that Advanced System Optimizer falls more on the scamware side based on the tactics it uses to try to get a user to purchase the software. It is very aggressive in its marketing and for most users they feel that it is needed or they will face sudden consequences to their computer. May experts on the subject consider this type of scan snake-oil even and should never be purchased. Also, consider there are a lot of really great free PC optimization programs on the market as well as many paid programs that do not use any form of egregious marketing or make false claims with the intentions of getting sales. Advanced System Optimizer is not one of these reputable products in our opinion. We feel that Advanced System Optimizer is a type of scam because of the type of errors that it reports and the actually performance or stability improvements it claims to fix. Registry cleaning as a whole is not completely necessary these days for simple corruptions, the type that Advanced System Optimizer reports on, as Windows itself can completely fix these issues without any interventions.
