What is Select Links App?

The Select Links App scam is designed to take control of the user's installed web browsers (Firefox, Chrome, IE) and to modify the core behavior of the browser. This includes changing the browser's default home page, new tab pages and most specifically the search engine it uses. Such a scam takes advantage of users by "offering" to protect or enhance their search by installing a dubious search page and taking control of the existing default search engine. The search Select Links App adds is full or bogus search results and a ton of advertising. It does this to get commissions on paid search results as well as paid to deliver and trick a user into clicking on banner and text ads.
Select Links App is classified as what is known as browser scam or Internet browser hijacking. In addition to taking controls of various search and homepage related settings, it also alters other settings that might lower the browser's security defaults and lower to overall security of the computer.   3. Once you've tried deleting all the content, go inside the Microsoft.MicrosoftEdge_8wekyb3d8bbwe folder and try deleting the remaining folders.
  4. Restart your computer.
  5. Re-register Microsoft Edge in your account. Open the Start menu, search for Windows PowerShell, right-click it from the result, and select Run as administrator.
  6. Type the following command and hit Enter cd C:\Users\Username. (Replace "Username" with your user account name.)
  7. Type the following command exactly and hit Enter: Get-AppXPackage -AllUsers -Name Microsoft.MicrosoftEdge | Foreach {Add-AppxPackage -DisableDevelopmentMode -Register "$($_.InstallLocation)\AppXManifest.xml" -Verbose}.
